Data Red Hat, GNU/Linux, IBM RS6000?

All - I have a stack of RS6000's that need a Linux install - Red Hat 5.2 to be exact. Any tips/pointers on how to get this done without an HMC? I can get the discs to boot, but the install hangs when asking for user interaction - like pressing 'ENTER' to skip disc media check.

Any help greatly appreciated!

EDIT: These are the proper PPC discs BTW - not the x86/EM64T-AMD64 discs.

Hi
I dont know if i have understand your problem
I have an old RS/6000 7025-F50 4*332 mhz with Aix and DEBIAN PPC 4.0 R2 boot is type (Prep) no problem
(just no drivers for SSA loop disks D40 with Linux).
You having small cd file (iso file ) download to make test.
If you not having DVD in your RS/6000 download is 21 cd to install really or 3 DVD
(also you can install same me i have make with SAMBA and mount DVD to other intel computer)
Debian PPC have no problem it is very stable.
(operational Oracle Apex DB2 Apache2 Postgresql Samba PPPOE Squid 3 .....)
Rh is also well but to resovle same problem boot specific model can be difficult
and take long time. I have also 7025-F40 but unable to boot Prep no resolved.
See debian.org site you having some informations and FAQ about PPC Prep boot to resolve

My problem:

System: 7026-H70

Current OS: AIX 4.3

Want to install: Red Hat 5.2, PPC

Symptom: Selecting '1' during the boot process, get into SMS, select to boot from CD-ROM, and the kernel/install kicks off fine. However, once you get to the 'Check Media' part of the Red Hat install, you can't F12 to go to the next screen, you can't hit <TAB> to select the next item - the installer just freezes, and there's nothing you can do.

Ok
You can open your FIrmeware for changing first boot device as cdrom and Hd
secondary same you not having to make choice.
also disable multiple boot if you have true in firmeware.
If same i think problem is Prep boot with load memory program install utility
Best regards.

Went into SMS, changed the boot devices to default, which has floppy first, CD-ROM second, HD third, network last.

The thing is like I said - the Red Hat CD boots just fine, it's when it requires user interaction - a keyboard <TAB>, SPACE, etc - you try and type something, it just sits there dead. Really odd.

Thanks for the tips nonetheless - going to keep at it.
