GRUB not showing a menu

Hi there,
I had a double boot of Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.04. After messing up with UBUNTU I reinstalled it. But then Grub did not noticed the existence of my windows and it just boot into linux. I booted with windows 7 installation CD which noticed a problem with my booting and suggest to repair it and restart the computer. But it took sometime before restarting into UBUNTU. My partition table is
Code:
Disk identifier: 0x00000000

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 13 102398+ 6 FAT16
Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary.
/dev/sda2 13 1288 10240000 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda3 1288 8937 61440000 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda4 8937 38914 240793276+ f W95 Ext'd (LBA)
/dev/sda5 8937 35076 209960932+ 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda6 35076 38750 29508608 83 Linux
/dev/sda7 38750 38914 1315832 82 Linux swap / Solaris

Any idea?
Also a curious observation is that I have /boot/grub/ both under / and in the windows partition used for storing files.

If you are using Ubuntu, you are probably using GRUB 1.98 - not GRUB legacy.

What is the contents of /boot/grub/grub.cfg?

I got frustrated and reinstalled Windows 7 so I don't have access to / partition at the moment and the two /boot/grub/ that I see in my both windows partitions do not contain any grub.cfg
I should just try to rescue my UBUNTU.
