Pre-installation verification before technology level update

Hello,

I was trying to upgrade TL on a lab server (test box). I did worked on (few) these type of SP and TL updates in the recent past. I saw the below message for the first time on server.

current OS level : 7100-03-01-1341
downloaded the newest/recent fix pack from fix central as explained below.

selected "SP 7100-04-02-1614" along with the requisite "7100-04-00-1543"
did not select "7100-04-011543"

When I was trying to preview the installation, i got below message.

Code:
*******************************************************************************
installp PREVIEW: installation will not actually occur.

End of installp PREVIEW. No apply operation has actually occurred.
******************************************************************************

I do not see a serious issue/failed message. I believe it will work.

But I would like to check with experts regarding this message. I usually see preview (pre-install verification) as success etc.

I believe we can directly update the system from " AIX 71 TL 03 SP 01" to latest " AIX 71 TL 04 SP 02"

Please provide your comments , is this normal ?

thanks

update: I do not know why there are "conflicting versions of filesets for which there
are multiple versions on the installation media."

just downloaded TL 04 SP 02 (by selecting requisite TL 04, not SP 01)

I am not able to find any info related to this particular fileset online.

Can we ignore "instfix -i | grep SP" command output since this is a TL update ?
Normally i never see this kind of issue after the upgrades. please suggest.

Yes, that happens sometimes when installp doesn't get all the pre- co- and if-requisites right. I routinely rerun updates multiple times until nothing gets installed any more. It is the same with updating NIM-resources, btw., and the same remedy: run the update multiple times.

One of the quirks of AIX which grow on you after some twenty-plus years with this "MVS-light" :-))

You can maybe even deinstall it. It is a driver for a 2port 10GbE card. According to a lslpp-output it contains:

Code:
PCIe2 10GbE 2-port GX++ Gen2 Converged Network VF Adapter Software

I hope this helps.

Done so, you're welcome. You can do so yourself by adding the tag "solved" to the threads tags.
