Pseries new configuration and install
Hi guys,

My company just bought pseries server from ibm,
would like to ask , if first i need to install HMC for creating lpars ?

or first i need to install aix , and then install hmc?

Generally vendor will do the HMC setup and installation ( and in some cases VIOS and few LPARS too).

But to answer your question, 1st you do HMC installation followed by VIOS then followed by AIX. (assuming you are virtualizing your env).

If you do HMC 1st, then you can see the Manage systems and do all the virtualization from HMC.

Notice, though, that "HMC" (Hardware Management Console) is NOT installed on the p-Series at all, it is a separate PC (with a heavily customized Linux made unaccessible to the best knowledge of IBM on it).

And, it's not necessary. You can manage VIOS without an HMC... .though many think you can't. Sometimes HMC just gets in the way... it all depends. If you have a lot of boxes, the HMC might be worthwhile, if just one, then I see no real need for it.

Hello, I'm very rookie to AIX and attempting to install AIX. I have vio ready on the machine and don't know how to install OS? Inserted Volume 1 DVD into the ROM, don't know what to do next.
