Live Partition Mobility using HP XP SAN storage

I have a real problem that I hope someone has experience of. I am setting up an LPM for a client who use HP SAN storage. In the past when I setup an LPM system the second World Wide Name (WWN) for the virtual client adapters were given to the storage team who then zoned and mapped these to same LUNs as the first WWN, simple. However with this client the storage team reckon there is no way they can do this! This is because the only way to zone and map is to see the WWN on the GUI tool and attach that using the same GUI to the LUN! As the second WWN is always invisible until LPM is started I cannot "illuminate it" for the GUI to see.

The HP SAN storage model is XP24000.

I sincerely hope someone out there has experience of this problem.

I doubt that and browsed some HP manuals. I am not sure which software is being used to configure the storage, but I found the following:

Quote:
If the desired host has never been connected via a cable to any port in the storage system,
take the following steps:
a. In the tree, right-click the host group and then select AddNewWWNfrom the pop-up
menu. The Add New WWN dialog box (“Add New WWN Dialog Box (When Registering
a Host that Has Never been Connected to the Storage System)” (page 39)) appears.
You cannot add WWNs to host groups for initiator ports.
b. Right-click the arrow on the right of the WWNlist, and then select the desired host bus
adapter from the list. If the list does not include the desired host bus adapter, enter the
desired WWN in the WWNlist.
c. If necessary, enter a nickname for the host bus adapter.
d. Click OKto close the Add New WWN dialog box. If a message appears, click OK.
The specified WWN and nickname appear below the selected host group.

Or if this software (Command View AE Suite?) applies:
Quote:
Registering a host
Register a host to monitor and manage it from P9000 Command View AE Suite, along with the other
registered hosts and storage systems.
Before you perform this task, review “Prerequisites for registering a host” on page 21.
To register a host:
1. On the Administration tab, select Managed Resources.
2. On the Hosts tab, click Add Hosts.
3. Select Discover Hosts or Add Host Manually.
4. Specify the appropriate information.
5. Click OK.
6. Check the Data Collection Tasks tab to confirm that the task has completed successfully.
7. When the task completes, confirm that the host name and WWN appear on the Hosts tab of
Managed Resources.
Or, you can confirm that the host name appears in the Hosts list displayed by using the Hosts
tree on the Resources tab.

I assume they use one of those tools to configure the array. If not, I still strongly doubt that you can't manually add a WWPN.

Many thanks that was just what I was looking for. Another example of Google giving more spurious results than factual!

You have been a great help and I will now stop tearing my hair out!!!!
