Changing the IP Address

I need to change the IP address on one of your Unix machines - P630, AIX5.2.
I plan on using SMIT to perform this function. These are the steps that I have put together so far:
1. Select Communications Applications & Services
- Select TCP/IP
- Select Minimun Configuration & Startup
- Select Network Interface (to change IP Address)
- Select Further Configurations
- Select Stop TCPIP/Daemons
- Select Start Configured TCPIP Daemons
2. Also change IP address in the hosts file in the etc directory.

Is there anything else that I need to be aware of? Do I need to reboot or will stoping and starting TCP/IP be enough?

You don't need to stop or start any daemons, a simple 'chdev' will suffice.

If you are using a nameserver you should reflect your changes there too.

Watch out for NFS-mounts ('showmount -e'), maybe mounts from this machine to others, which *may* be adjusted.

If you are in a cluster environment (HACMP) you have to reconfigure your cluster but judging by the way you are phrasing your question I'd strongly advise to get someone knowledgeable in that area to do it for you in this case.

There's a way to use an "Alias-IP-Adress" on top of the existing one.
Probably you will like to "test" ist before running into trouble with
NFS-mounts and HACMP and so on...

With smitty you can find it under "Communication..", "TCP/IP", "Further Config...", "Network Interface Selection", "Configure Aliases".
