Good afternoon all,
I'll probably confuse everyone as I'm a Windows guy dealing with AIX 6.1 and can't quite figure out how to do something. I have a P520 server running 2 LPARs and we have an IVM (not HMC).Within the IVM under Virtual Storage Management, when I check the Physical Volumes, I have a HDisk5 not assigned to anything (431GB). Now, for my AIX 6.1 partition I have 2 volume groups (rootvg, datavg) and would like to use HDisk5 as a backupvg. And what I would like to see as the end result is that when I do a df -g to have it show as /dev/backup_lv where I would have 431GB that I can be used for backup files.
pvcreate (pvdisplay to show) to make a physical volume
vgcreate (vgdisaply to show) to make a volume group
lvcreate (lvdisplay to show) to make a logical volume
Thanks for that! The only part I'm unclear on is... won't the -s 8 set the size to 128GB? (From the man pages) Would I then just expand the fs?
Thanks as always!
No, it wont. "-s 8" will set that each physical partition will have 8Mb, so if you will decide to extend fs you will do it by minimum of 8Mb.
I would suggest you to create scalable volume group. Here are differences between Normal, Big and Scalable VG
Create VG
or
Then create LV
or
Then create FS on already existing jfs2 LV
or
and mount your newly created FS
But there are more options for each command, like if you would like to varryon vg automatically after system reboot or if you would like to mount FS after system restarts. If I were you I would use smit which is very easy to use, and you dont have to look for flags in manual pages.
Hello Guys,
I want to create a file system dedicated for an application installation. But there is no space in volume group to create a new logical volume. There is enough space in other logical volume which is being mounted on /var.
I know we can use that logical volume and create a virtual... (2 Replies)

Hi Experts
I need an script to add an disk in to the veritas volume manager disk group.

c7t11d2
c6t11d6
Normally we add the disk like this:

Does anyone have any simple methods for moving a current logical volume from one volume group to another? I do not wish to move the data from one physical volume to another. Basically, I want to "relink" the logical volume to exist in a different volume group. Any ideas? (2 Replies)
Hello,
I have logical volume group of 50GB, in which I have 2 logical volumes, LogVol01 and LogVol02, both are of 10GB.
If I extend LogVol01 further by 10GB, then it keeps the extended copy after logical volume 2. I want to know where it keeps this information
