Creating Mirror

Good afternoon all,

I'm sorry if this is a total n00b question but if you create a mirrored disk (rootvg (approx. 30 GB) - AIX 6.1 on a P520), will there be any impact to the production system as it's syncronizing? The boss thinks there will be too much impact to do this during working hours.

TIA!

There are some minor overheads but it would be nothing if you go with stability and reliability

Cheers! That's what I though and what I have found on the Interwebs, but couldn't find anything rock solid to prove it with.

RAID Hardware controllers might offer slight or significant performance ( it depend on the underlying algorithm that drive the controller ) when it comes to mirroring and stripping data across disks over pure SW RAID and LVM solutions.
RAID Controllers comes with extra cost.

It's HW RAID, so I figure I'm probably good Smilie

IBM recommend not to mirror the dump lv, I am assuming they are referring to mirroring as part of rootvg for example.
