choosing correct VG for Filesystem extend

Hi Gurus,

I have Aix 5.3 server and would like to extend the following filesystem.

PHP Code:
Filesystem        GB blocks    Free     %Used  Iused    %Iused   Mounted on
/dev/lv_mecdr    120.00       12.04     90%   560973   14%     /home/mecdr
But there’s only 16G for the VG, may be i can expand it with the cbsvg and logvg. I am not sure the procedure. Could you please help it how I can do it? Should I use "smit"??

PHP Code:
[app1][/]# lsvg mdsvg

Are you looking for a way to change the size of the filesystem? This would increase it by 1GB:
Code:
chfs -a size=+1G /home/mecdr

yes i need to change the size of the filesystem /home/mecdr.

I planned to extend 25GB at least. But as you see above only 16GB is free according to Free PP size. So, How I can extend more 25GB?
# 4
Can I have " lslv lv_mecdr" o/p ?

In AIX Lvm it will not allow a file system to take space from other VGs .So if you don't have free pps available on concerned VG then you need to add disk to the concerned VG.
# 5
you need to extend the volume group with a new LUN/disk
# 6
thepurple,

You just perform listing of VG mdsvg which is about 16G free right?
How about the VG cbsvg and logvg what are the free PP?

lsvg cbsvg
lsvg logvg

you can shrink those VG and put it on mdsvg depending on what you need if there is still space on the said VG.
