AIX 5.3 on p275 - how to login from ANSI terminal?

I did a fresh install of AIX 5.3 on my p275. I can now boot the system from the disk and login as root, but only from the directly attached graphics console (keyboard+LCD monitor). Over on the ASCII terminal, I see all messages up to and including "Completed NFS services" but the actual login: prompt appears on the graphics console.

In linux I would set up a getty on /dev/ttyS0, but on AIX?

MySQL smitty tty6

Try to configure the console with smitty tty,
The ANSI terminals name are "tty"
and the LCD terminal name are "lft'

you can also user the 'lsattr -El tty0" command to view all tty attributes,

please let me know whats happen success.

Thanks, aixcraft. When I posted that message, I did have a working AIX installation, but it was short-lived. After I installed the updates from the two update CDs, the system wouldn't boot anymore (lockup while starting NFS services). I tried reinstalling several more times, with all possible permutations. Usually it would boot up to the login prompt at least once after the initial install, but subsequent boots would lock up, usually at the same place, but not always. I did get it working in 32-bit, but the DVD-ROM drive wasn't recognized and there were weird problems with the network. I smelled driver problems, or possibly a HW problem, or maybe the installation media I have are for a different machine?

Anyway, I "solved" the problem by giving up on AIX and installing CRUX PPC instead. What a difference that makes! Now the p275 runs the way it should: fast and stable, in 64 bits. Still, I wish I could run AIX as well, but alas this does not seem possible.

The p275 is listed as supporting AIX 6.1 which is only 64bit so you shouldn't have any problem with AIX 5.3 64bit, I have a much older system running 5.3-64.

Before you try any AIX update you should check for and install any available firmware updates for the system, adapters and devices.

Could be you have a hardware issue but this sounds like a firmware rather than a bad hardware problem.

Also could be your media does not support your hardware, there are a few different install media sets out there.
