without giving you the WHOLE answer, the following code will ping each IP address in the requested file and store the results in the array @results
NOTE: check the location of the file to open - I changed it for testing purposes.
I know how to ping in Perl. That is easy. What I am wondering is if there is a way for Perl to determine whether the ping was successful or not. Or do I need to save the results out and parse the results seperately looking for the #of tries and successful revieves.

Please help, i will telnet to router to obain the ping status and compare, if higher than normal latency, i will have further action..
if i do the telent and in perl script then ....

I have this script in ksh, what it does is loop every ip in the nodes_nso and produced another variable up_nodes_nso of only ip's that are up.

i have an issue with ping, we are using dhcp and so if the machine has been offline and i ping it, i get " ping: unknown host <hostname>
is there a way i can stick a loop somewhere so it would keep trying when it got the unknown host error and then when the machine came back online... (2 Replies)

jms-ping - checks to see if the JMS provider is up and running
SYNOPSIS
jms-ping --user admin_user [--password admin_password] [--host localhost] [--port 4848] [--passwordfile filename] [--secure|-s]
[--terse=false] [--echo=false] [--interactive=false]
Checks to see if the JMS provider is up and running. This command is supported in remote mode only.
OPTIONS --user authorized domain application server administrative username.
--password password to administer the domain application server.
--host machine name where the domain application server is running.
--port port number of the domain application server listening for administration requests.
--passwordfile file containing the domain application server password.
--secure if true, uses SSL/TLS to communicate with the domain application server.
--terse indicates that any output data must be very concise, typically avoiding human-friendly sentences and favoring well-
formatted data for consumption by a script. Default is false.
--echo setting to true will echo the command line statement on the standard output. Default is false.
