Thanks. Haven't tried that yet because I made progress..


After trying all of my opened ROMs that are dated 8/03, 12/03, and 4/04, the 4/04 Operating environment gave me the Can't read disk label error, and all other disks, including the installation and software disks gave me the Can't open kernel error. So I broke the seal on a brand new 4/04 package and the Operating Environment CD worked. So yeah!..



But I am curious about what's going on here.. it had two operating environment CDs in the package I opened that appear identical. I tried the other one and it did not work. I got
Code:
Bad magic number in disk label
Can't open disk label package
Can't open boot device


Combined with the other errors, what could be going on? I doubt its so many bad ROMs.

Wait.. Now I see.. One is x86

Cdrom boot problems

Hi Everyone, I have a problem. I'm trying too reinstall sun solaris 8.0 on may Sunfire 280r but solaris 9.0 is all ready installed. cannot find boot device and won't boot off cdrom

I'm running solaris 2.5.1. My main development server is DEAD, i can't even boot off the cdrom, it powers up, acts like it is starting the boot process but then says cannot find boot device. Cannot boot from scsi cdrom

I have a server with a scsi raid controller (for hard drives) and a scsi controller (for tape drive and cd-rom). I am trying to boot from the cd-rom but can't. NAME

       mkqdisk - Cluster Quorum Disk Utility

WARNING

       Use of this command can cause the cluster to malfunction.

SYNOPSIS

       mkqdisk [-?|-h] | [-L] | [-f label] [-c device  -l label] [-d [-d ...]]

DESCRIPTION

       The mkqdisk command is used to create a new quorum disk or display existing quorum disks accessible from a given cluster node.

OPTIONS

       -c device -l label
	      Initialize  a new cluster quorum disk.  This will destroy all data on the given device.  If a cluster is currently using that device
	      as a quorum disk, the entire cluster will malfunction.  Do not run this on an active cluster  when  qdiskd  is  running.	 Only  one
	      device  on  the  SAN should ever have the given label; using multiple different devices is currently not supported (it is expected a
	      RAID array is used for quorum disk redundancy).  The label can be any textual string up to 127 characters - and is therefore  enough
	      space to hold a UUID created with uuidgen(1).

       -f label
	      Find the cluster quorum disk with the given label and display information about it.

       -L     Display information on all accessible cluster quorum disks.

       -d     Increase debugging level.  Specify multiple times for more information.  Currently, specifying more than twice has no effect.
