Full Discussion: awk
awk

I have to print the total number of bytes in all the files in the current directory that were last modified in November (of any year). (with awk).
I`ve tried this command:
Code:
ls -l | awk '$6 == "Nov" { sum += $5 }
             END { print sum }'

but this doesn`t work only if your date format is like this:
e.g:
Code:
-rw-r--r--  1 arnold   user    983 Apr 13 12:14 gawk.tab.h

and my format is different, it's something like this:
Code:
drwxrwxr-x 2 oana oana 4096 2012-03-02 16:36 Makefile

if you have any ideas, please tell me.
thank you Smilie

NAME
igawk - gawk with include files SYNOPSIS
igawk [ all gawk options ] -f program-file [ -- ] file ... igawk [ all gawk options ] [ -- ] program-text file ... DESCRIPTION
Igawk is a simple shell script that adds the ability to have ``include files'' to gawk(1). AWK programs for igawk are the same as for gawk, except that, in addition, you may have lines like @include getopt.awk in your program to include the file getopt.awk from either the current directory or one of the other directories in the search path. OPTIONS
See gawk(1) for a full description of the AWK language and the options that gawk supports. EXAMPLES
cat << EOF > test.awk @include getopt.awk BEGIN { while (getopt(ARGC, ARGV, "am:q") != -1) ... } EOF igawk -f test.awk SEE ALSO
