I am quite knew to scripting and I am trying to get a regular expression to work to check that a user enters a valid version number such as 1 or 1.1 or 12.3 etc. I dont seem to be able to get it to work as it picks up versions such as 1.......2. PURPOSE

ARGUMENTS
N (input) INTEGER
The order of the matrix A. N >= 0.
NRHS (input) INTEGER
The number of right hand sides, i.e., the number of columns of the matrix B. NRHS >= 0.
D (input) DOUBLE PRECISION array, dimension (N)
The n diagonal elements of the tridiagonal matrix A.
E (input) DOUBLE PRECISION array, dimension (N-1)
The (n-1) subdiagonal elements of the tridiagonal matrix A.
DF (input) DOUBLE PRECISION array, dimension (N)
The n diagonal elements of the diagonal matrix D from the factorization computed by DPTTRF.
