On the face of it, looks okay. You could probably avoid at least some amount of temporary files by using pipelines instead.

Code:
DO_SOME_STUFF | nc -w 1 "$remote_host" "$port"

The Useless Use of Test $? is also something I personally try to avoid.

Code:
if echo "$data|$thisMachine" | nc -w 1 "$host" "$port"
then
  # wait for data
  nc -l -p "$port" >"output.file";
fi

or even more succinctly

Code:
echo "$data|$thisMachine" | nc -w 1 "$host" "$port" && nc -l -p "$port" >"output.file"

Finally, there's a Useless Use of Echo which is kind of silly.

Code:
thisMachine=$(/sbin/ifconfig eth0 | grep "inet addr" | cut -d ":" -f 2 | cut -d " " -f 1)

But these are merely stylistic issues. (Haven't actually tested your code, though)

My compliments for the judicious use of double quotes; they're a bit on the paranoid side when the strings do not contain any whitespace or variable interpolations, but better safe than sorry.

Hello, Thank you very much for the line nc -lp <port> . I tried to run simple chat session with nc as it's shown in catonmatDOTorg but failed miserably with that syntax inspite of opening port 7777 by iptables . But your command example is working nicely. NAME

       Locale::Codes::LangVar - standard codes for language variation identification

SYNOPSIS

	  use Locale::Codes::LangVar;

	  $lvar = code2langvar('acm');		       # $lvar gets 'Mesopotamian Arabic'
	  $code = langvar2code('Mesopotamian Arabic'); # $code gets 'acm'

	  @codes   = all_langvar_codes();
	  @names   = all_langvar_names();

DESCRIPTION

       The "Locale::Codes::LangVar" module provides access to standard codes used for identifying language variations, such as those as defined in
       the IANA language registry.

       Most of the routines take an optional additional argument which specifies the code set to use. If not specified, the default IANA language
       registry codes will be used.

SUPPORTED CODE SETS

       There are several different code sets you can use for identifying language variations. A code set may be specified using either a name, or
       a constant that is automatically exported by this module.

       For example, the two are equivalent:

	  $lvar = code2langvar('en','alpha-2');
	  $lvar = code2langvar('en',LOCALE_CODE_ALPHA_2);

       The codesets currently supported are:

       alpha
	   This is the set of alphanumeric codes from the IANA language registry, such as 'arevela' for Eastern Armenian.

	   This code set is identified with the symbol "LOCALE_LANGVAR_ALPHA".

	   This is the default code set.
