Difference Technique's???
Is there any better way of doing this? I only want to find a status of a diff, ie diff the file and return to me whether it is different or not or non-existant.

This example works, however I think it could be less messier:


workd=`pwd`;find $workd -name "*.sum" | while read line ; do pworkd=`echo $line | sed s./env1./env2.g`; diff $line $pworkd >/dev/null ; echo $line $? ; done >/logs/DiffsInSomeFiles.txt



and I have this script below to acutally write the files that are different to a specific text file with the full path name converted to the basename (to fix having some files have the same name in diff paths). Any better suggestions here as well? ie making it only do the diff once without the status bit?

How to remove a file with a leading dash '-' in it's name?

Somehow someone created a file named '-ov' in the root directory. Given the name, the how was probably the result of some cpio command they bozo'ed. NAME

       zcmp, zdiff - compare compressed files

SYNOPSIS

       zcmp [ cmp_options ] file1 [ file2 ]
       zdiff [ diff_options ] file1 [ file2 ]

DESCRIPTION

       Zcmp  and  zdiff are used to invoke the cmp or the diff program on files compressed via gzip.  All options specified are passed directly to
       cmp or diff.  If only file1 is specified, it is compared to the uncompressed contents of file1.gz.  If two files are specified, their  con-
       tents  (uncompressed  if  necessary)  are  fed to cmp or diff.  The input files are not modified.  The exit status from cmp or diff is pre-
       served.
