I am not familar with wrapper scripts.
I was thinking a longer way of doing things would be do write a bunch of if, elifs and write something like if
if [ "$1" -eq January ]
then
cal 1 2001
fi
for getting january 2001, then fill in the rest through to december.
What do you say is this an effective way or, should I try something else.

Besides I am particularly interested in how one can parse the return from the cal command. Say do - cal 11 2008 - and parse out a given date, say the 8th and return that the 8th was Saturday. ( diffrentiating between S for Saturday and Sunday , also in the case... (1 Reply)

I got this from this board yesterday
cal | xargs -n1 | tail -1 which displays the current months days.. for instance if you type this in a shell today you will get 31.
I would like to also display the month and year.. something like
March 2011 has 31 days.

DESCRIPTION
The cal utility shall write a calendar to standard output using the Julian calendar for dates from January 1, 1 through September 2, 1752
and the Gregorian calendar for dates from September 14, 1752 through December 31, 9999 as though the Gregorian calendar had been adopted on
September 14, 1752.

The following operands shall be supported:
month Specify the month to be displayed, represented as a decimal integer from 1 (January) to 12 (December). The default shall be the cur-
rent month.

LANG Provide a default value for the internationalization variables that are unset or null. (See the Base Definitions volume of

determine the values of locale categories.)
LC_ALL If set to a non-empty string value, override the values of all the other internationalization variables.
LC_CTYPE

multi-byte characters in arguments).
LC_MESSAGES
Determine the locale that should be used to affect the format and contents of diagnostic messages written to standard error, and

TZ Determine the timezone used to calculate the value of the current month.
