You don't want the dollar at the beginning when you're defining them.

Hi,
I have a function or script like this.

} | tee -a log
show
This creates a logfile and prints Hi in it. Now when I try to do the same for sql like this:

DESCRIPTION
This manual page documents briefly the kdc2tiff command. This manual page was written for the Debian GNU/Linux distribution because the
original program does not have a manual page.
kdc2tiff is a program that converts Kodac kdc files to tiff with attention to aspect ratio, accurate scaling, contrast adjustment, gamma
correction and image rotation.

-h # output image height
-g # absolute gamma correction
+g # relative gamma correction
-G no grain reduction (default)
+G reduce graininess
+GG reduce graininess (extra)
+e normal contrast enhancement (default)
