Research for College

I am researching the reasons why Unix / Linux is the chosen operating system versus Windows. I have had difficutly narrowing down resources. I am wondering if anyone has any favorite sources that they would care to share.

Chosen for what, by whom? A better focus on the paper might be differences.

Beyond that, I wonder if this'd infringe on the no-homework rule.

It is, and is aslo essentially an OS v's OS question which is also not allowed.
