Restore

Hello everyone,
I have a problem with my windows XP, the problem started when I discovered a PUP (Potential Unwanted Program), that used to generate pop ups. I uninstalled it, but it started to regenerate itself! so I had to delete it, and everything has anything to do with this program. Unfortunately, one of the things that I deleted ( I don't know which one) affected my windows badly, insuch away that I couldn't open anything. I tried to open them from program files, but when I click on any .exe file it come up with a massage saying ( windows can not open this file) and when I choose ( Use the web service to find the appropriate program) it doesn't go to the web browser ( although there is no problem with the internet). I know the best solution is to reinstall windows. However, when I put the CD in and I click on Set-up it came with the same message ( windows can not.......) as set-up is an exe file.
Can anyone help me please??
Can anyone tell me which file that executes the .exe files?
Thank youvery much

you should try to see associations with *.exe files in the register... Try to do it with regedt32 from a remote computer...

another way is you can't use CD of windows, then you can use CD of DOS.

right click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop and then select "System Restore" ... if your System Restore is still enabled (by default) --- you should be able to revert the system to the state it was before you so enjoyed removing the PUPs ... this might cause the system to not know of apps you put in after that date so you might have to reinstall those as required ...

to do a system restore, select Programs-->Accessories-->System Tools-->System Restore then just work with the wizard ...

if not possible, reinstalling the OS might be your only option ...

good luck!
