Thank you Neo for recocnizing itSmilie, I/all of us will be very grateful to you if we could have forum where we have PROJECTS where people can have their work summary with little guidance(if possible) so that we could definetly learn and try it by our own. Thanks again for your inputs.

Thanks,
R. Singh

The good thing about a '(User) Projects' subforum is that there is a simpler access to show off one's ideas as opposed to sites like GitHub. I don't have to worry about any version control system(s) as I would have control of my incarnations.
Another thing is that there is a history of progression from concept to finale and people can see how these projects, (have), evolved...

I had issues with GitHub because of my email addy which is auotmatically redirected to another site, (all legitimate), but GitHub could not handle it.

Hence I have all but abandoned my AudioScope.sh project on GitHub now...

This site is my main outlet for my attempts at writing shell scripted apps and this future subforum would be a great asset.

As an addendum there is a site that has a user forum for code 'recipes' where people upload code snippets to make life easier for others.

code.activestate.com/recipes/

Biased towards Python, but other languages accepted.

It it OK if we make the "Projects" forum a subforum of another forum first? Or does it have to start at a top level forum?

I would say a Top Level Topic like Custom Projects,
containing sub topics like:
  • Fun (or Small) Projects (eg: signature generator/hw parser, terminal snowfall, IP checker)
  • Teachings(Containing examples of stuff we need to refer every-so-often again, eg: case/if-blocks)
  • Challenges (like: #6)
  • Self Made Stuff (eg: Tetris, AudioScope, TUI)

IMO this would help to avoid misunderstandings.
I'm not certain about Tetris/IP checker placements, while the IP script is more advanced (from a SysAdmin point of view, and coding approaches, Tetris is larger but also for 'fun', while both are self made...

However, one might also propose a setup like:
Code:
Custom Scripts/Projects
+ Projects
+ Snippets
+ Challenges
+ Scripts (everything that fits within a single file)

But then again, Snippets and Challenges will both contain only small code parts for only a specific and/or basic usage purpose.

My 2 cents

Hello Neo,

Also want to add here if you could more BITS for this forum(Projects forum), may be more than emergency forum. It may attract people more to post into it Smilie. Just a thought.

Thanks,
R. Singh
