Unable to send e-mail using mailx command

Hi All,

Can you please help me in solving this. I am facing some problem sending mails.

If I use like this, I am able to send mail the mail

echo "This is an automated e-mail; please do not reply." | mailx -s "Good Morning ." 'abc@xys.com'

But if I use like this, then I am unable to send mail. Not sure why??

email=abc@xyz.com
echo "This is an automated e-mail; please do not reply." | mailx -s "Good Morning. " "'$email'"

Kindly some one help me on this.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Manas

Because you use hard quoting by additional single quotation marks:

Code:
..."'$email'"

In these the variable can't be substituted and it will try to send the mail to $email which doesn't work.

So write it like this:
Code:
..."${email}"

and try again.
