I have to ask - is your $PWD in the mounted directory?
If so, you're locking it. cd elsewhere, then eject.

If not, do you have the utility "lsof"? If not, you can get it for your system, and use it to see what files are open in the mount point.

yes the pwd is mounted.
what is the command to verify the system has the utility lsof

and from where to get it?

thanks,
grep

What I was asking is this:
Where is the CD mounted? Where are you in the filesystem?

My point is, if the two directories above are the same, then you have to change directory to NOT be on the mount point (or below) of the CD rom... You're what's making the device busy...

And you could get lsof here:

What LivinFree is trying to explain is:

Lets say your mount point is /mnt . You do the command pwd and it says the current directory is /mnt/home/jones .....

If you try to umount /mnt you will get a 'Device busy error' because your are 'in' the filesystem.

It is a bit like being in a airlock on a spacestation. You are in the airlock without spacesuit and someone tries to evacuate the airlock. A built-in safety mechanism ALARMS and days "WARNING: TRYING TO EVACUATE YOUR FRIEND".... (ok, not such a good analogy, but you get the idea).

The same is true if you have running processes are executed from within the mounted filesystems, etc. You simply cannot unmount 'busy' filesystems.... you have to make sure they are 'not busy'.....

Got it?

/cdrom/disk1/runInstaller

gentlemen,

oracle justifies this cdrom error and
recommends:

# /cdrom/oracle/orainst/orainst /m
or
# /cdrom/disk1/runInstaller

i run both and i get no found.

what is wrong?

thanks

Perhaps you are using precomplied binaries that do not run on your linux architecture?
