Profile scripts versus rc scripts....

what is the difference between login and profile scripts versus the rc scripts?

they have nothing in common!!!!
profile and login files are shell config files
they change the way the shell works, for one user (if its in home) or for all the users (if the config files are in /etc/)

the rc scripts are part of the system v boot system, and they are the ones that make your computer go broooom!!!

and the profile depends on what shell you use. google "bash profile" or "ksh profile" accordingly
