how do i create a directory.
how do check if the directory exist and it is valid?

Sounds suspiciously like homework but I will give you the benefit of doubt.

man mkdir
look at the directory permissions

ls -l /testdir

Use "ll -d" to check directory and not list files inside

"ls -ld" if you don't have ll defined.
