can't save crontab with vi

I edit crontab with vi editor, i delete the lines i wanted, but i can't save!

i tried the :w, :wq, ZZ commands and it seems like vi is unfamiliar with it.

any suggestions?

Best don't edit crontabs with an editor directly, better user crontab -e so the crond recognizes changes!
Default crontab editor is usually vi, I think, but are you sure it's vi?

Check
Code:
env| grep EDITOR

if somebody might have changed it. Anyway use crontab -e.

Do not use vi to edit a crontab file.
You may be able to force a save, but the cron-daemon most likely will not use the new file.
Use crontab -e (or crontab -u <user> -e).

i always used crontab -e

but it's working now..
i used "export EDITOR" command and vi is acting ok now.
