Creating space in root folder

Hi , I was wondering if anyone knows any great ways for creating space in your Root Folder.
My root folder was created with only 247.7MB & I found out that its now full & I was initially wondering how important the "thumbnails Folder" was & if it was alright to delete their contenses as I noticed a lot of files in them.
Thanks anyone who may know of other options or if deleting thumbnails matters much as I am not sure where they exactly get used from the root folder.

I guess thumbnails are not critical Smilie What Unix/Linux are you using? Do you use LVM (Logical Volume Manager)? If yes, you can expand the filesystem easy with lvm commands or maybe via some graphical tool.
To test if you use a LVM (when on Linux), just try if the command "vgdisplay" as root puts out some useful information.

Wow , Thanks for pointing that out, I realised I never said what distro I was using because the name Unix Forums made me think BSD.
Also its only BSD distro's I know of that only create a small root folder less than 300mb unless you manually intervene which I never did this time when I installed it.
AnyWay I am using a FreeBSD Distro & I dont think it was LVM , but I would like to learn more about LVM in future.

I was wondering though if I did delete the thumbnails if they would just create themselves again or if they were important for browsing etc & should keep them, although I noticed some in folder I dont like .
I thought I once read on the O'reilly web site a tutorial on cleaning & making space in your BSD root folder etc, so I will have to check that out to.
