UNIX Filename length restrictions?

Can anyone help me out with information on the filename length restrictions in UNIX? Thanks!

Varies by OS. Best bet is to Google your question.

256 or so...

On average, I would say that it is 256 chars.

You can have as many . - and other allowed special chars as you want. I doubt that you will need that long of a filename. Thank God for filename completion!!!! In HPUX... and others.
