Question What Linux distribution should I use?

Hey

I am right now working on an old Compaq computer, and because I have a newer one I thought of installing Linux on this one. The thing is that I don't know which Linux distribution that would work with a minimum of lag. My computer specifications is:

Compaq Presario 7000
Intel Pentium III-processor
999MHz, 384 MB RAM

Any suggestions?

I guess about all Linux'es are downwards compatible but maybe try Ubuntu which you can download for free and is very user friendly. It usually comes with a graphical desktop, but you can always open up a shell and start digging into it.
Or Debian, or or ... there are so many ^^

Fedora Core is easy to use and easy to install.

I recommend to use the KDE GUI, since it is more functional.

What are the differences between KDE and GNOME?

Basically, KDE looks more like MS-Windows than GNOME (it isn't the reason why I'm recommending it).

KDE works faster than Gnome, at least on my machine.
