Question directing output

How do I direct the output of an at command

at now < backupprogram

so that I see something happening. It says the job has been executed but I am not getting the tar file that my backup program on the computer anywhere at all

Please help me - I really am a struggling begginer.

From the at(1) man page:

The user will be mailed standard error and standard output from his commands, if any. Mail will be sent using the command /usr/sbin/sendmail. If at is executed from a su(1) shell, the owner of the login shell will receive the mail.
