gotoxy(x,y) in UNIX

Hi there,

Is there any equivalent command in UNIX for gotoxy() function of C? I'm having difficulty placing the input of user from a specified line. Say I have below output:

Quote:
What is the favorite fruit of monkey? _
a.) Banana
b.) Pineapple
c.) Watermelon
I would want user to input their answer immediately after the question but still the choices of answer is displayed below. My code goes:

Code:
echo "What is the favorite fruit of monkey?"
read ANSWER
echo "a.) Banana"
echo "b.) Pineapple"
echo "c.) Watermelon"

The problem above obviously is that the console ask the user immediately after the question even before the choice is displayed. The problem I'm facing is to display the choices but still the user will input their answer still right next to the question.

Any ideas?

you can try printf or echo -n

printf and echo -n didn't work. I tried it and the outcome is just the same as the above. The console ask the user for input right after the question (which is what I need) but the choices are displayed after the answer is typed in. The case should be that the choices are already displayed before the user provide his/her answer right next to the question done by cmd read.

Rearrange your way of asking.
Code:
Fruits for monkey:
a.) Banana
b.) Pineapple
c.) Watermelon
What is the favorite fruit of monkey? _
