Question hp ux core files
what are core files?? Can I safely delete them??? Please, help

Yes you can delete core files.

The fact that they exist (assuming it is a production system) means you have code problems. Production systems should not have code that makes core dumps (a file copy of the memory of an actively running program that crashes)

Be very very careful.
Run the "file" command on the file called core to verify that it is a core file e.g. "core file from ...". Such files can be deleted.
If you are writing an automated script, confine any search to files only and include a test of the output from "file".
On many unix systems there are files and directories called "core" which you do not want to delete!
