Unix Process

Hi

does unix keep track of the processes or programs it ran. can i check when my program last ran on the system.

any suggestions are welocme.

-- logs made by the program it self are missing.

You can create a wrapper script:

#!/bin/ksh

echo `date` >> logfile

"execute your progam here"

echo `date` >> logfile


This way before your program starts and after it finishes the date is written to the file specified.

I couldn't understand how this script helps to trace processes.

It makes log entries when a program starts and ends.

UNIX does not save this info automatically. You have to have some sort of system set up to remember it.

If you have process accounting turned on you will be able to see when an arbitrary command ran, otherwise, no.
