I have done telnet like this.
it may be a dumb way to do that but still it works.

#!/bin/csh
( echo open 111.11.1.111
sleep 2
echo username
sleep 1
echo passwd
) | telnet

Smilie

I'm surprised that's working. Login proces doesn't read password via stdin.

This pipe doesn't work on my systems.

But I use "ncat" ...

I am using a Hp-Ux workstation and the remote system is a Sun Solaris one.
This script is working fine with this setup.
I do not find a problem.
I do not know whether it is a problem with yours
