Linux File System and Storage Array Confusion

Hi Friends,
I have a host(Suse Linux 10.4) which has 2 luns presented from 2 different arrays HP eva and xp. we are planning to migrate hp eva to 3par. When i look for physical volume i see /dev/dm-4, /dev/dm-5, /dev/dm-7and when i look for multipath -ll i see dm-8,dm-9,dm-7. So i can't confirm which physical volumes or filesystem reside on the EVA array as multipath names are not used in same way during the physcial volume creation. Is there anyother way i can find which file system/Physical volume resides on the EVA array ?
Please, Let me know if you need more information.
Please reply. any help is greatly appreciated.

It will be great if you could post some of these outputs below. Also do you use LVM on this machine?

#df -h
#fdisk -l
#multipath -v2

Thanks!

Hi npandith, yes they use LVm on this machine
here is the output:
From Multipath output i can see storage is coming from 2 different arrays:
dm -6 and dm -7 are coming from EVA and the rest from XP array.

Code:

From the above outputs, looks like dm-7 is not for any of your file systems.

mpathb (3600508b4000d3f600000600006430000) dm-7 HP,HSV450
[size=40G][features=1 queue_if_no_path][hwhandler=0]

mpatha (3600508b4000d3f600000600006d30000) dm-6 HP,HSV450
[size=11G][features=1 queue_if_no_path][hwhandler=0]

dm-6 is used by
Code:
/dev/mapper/vg02-lv00
                      9.9G 1.1G 8.9G 11% /oracle

pvs
Code:
PV VG Fmt Attr PSize PFree
/dev/dm-6 vg02 lvm2 a- 11.00G 1020.00M

vgs
Code:
VG #PV #LV #SN Attr VSize VFree
vg02 2 1 0 wz--n- 21.99G 11.99G

lvs
Code:
LV VG Attr LSize Origin Snap% Move Log Copy%
 lv00 vg02 -wi-ao 10.00G

Note that, you VG vg02 has 2 disks (dm-6 and dm-8), dm-8 is not used at all and not added to any volume but these 2 are from different arrays.

I had seen some hosts where in the multipath output it displays dm-7 and dm-8 but in the pvs it says dm-4,dm-5 in most cases they didn't used same naming conventions.

so i was thinking is there anyway i can check whether output of pvs dm-10 ,dm-11,dm-12,dm-13,dm-14,dm-6,dm-8,dm-9 resides on which array ?
PV VG Fmt Attr PSize PFree /dev/cciss/c0d0p3 vg00 lvm2 a- 125.34G 43.09G /dev/dm-10 B lvm2 a- 16.00G 1.00G /dev/dm-11 A lvm2 a- 20.00G 20.00G /dev/dm-12 A lvm2 a- 20.50G 20.50G /dev/dm-13 B lvm2 a- 15.73G 15.73G /dev/dm-14 vg01 lvm2 a- 3.76G 1.26G /dev/dm-6 vg02 lvm2 a- 11.00G 1020.00M /dev/dm-8 vg02 lvm2 a- 11.00G 11.00G /dev/dm-9 vg01 lvm2 a- 5.00G 5.00G

you can actually run dmsetup ls and compare it with the lvdisplay command(Block Device)

Code:
#dmsetup ls
#lvdisplay

I am unable to figure out which pv resides on which array from the output of those 2 commands:

Let me put this way: from the pvs output i see :
dm-10, dm-11, dm-12, dm-13, dm-6 , dm-8

How can i know whether dm -10 resides on which array ? in similar way dm -11, dm-12, dm-13?

I can figure out if they used same naming conventions for pv with respect to multipath -ll output but here in multipath -ll output you see different dm's and in pvs you see different dm's.

Is there anyway to check from the output of pvs i want to know which dm's resides on which array ?
