Please explain a bit more.. $PWD contains the current working directory.. How do you intend to use this information?

write the same command but include $PWD in it

I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish, but you can use $PWD like this:
Code:
ls -lt $PWD > log.txt

or like this:
Code:
ls -lt > $PWD/log.txt

or even:
Code:
ls -lt $PWD > $PWD/log.txt

all of them are good Smilie thank you
