FTP in Shell Script

Dear All,

I am using FTP in a script. But when i exit from the FTP session, the commands written after EOF don't get executed.

i.e.

Code:
ftp [IP] <<EOF
quote $login
quote $password
cd /tmp
mget *somefile*
bye
EOF

echo $some_variable

#This last echo command or whatever piece of commands i write, don't run and script exists just after transferring the files.

Thanks in advance.

$some_variable is not set.
So it prints an empty string = nothing.

Greets

EDIT:
Is your code executed on the ftp server?

I used it for example. varible is set and this piece of commands works fine if FTP part is eliminited.

I assume your FTP code is partly wrong.

Code:
cd /tmp
mget *somefile*
bye

Will change to FTP path HOST:/tmp
And download everything to your current local dir.

Note:
lcd - local cd
cd - ftp cd

Quote is not used to login - it just sends the string to the server - once you have loged in Smilie
You might want to have a look at this thread which might help to set up ~/.netrc to easier access your ftp servers.

Hope this helps
