Hi Rudic,

Your command returns lines with the correct paths to files I'm looking for, but it also returns a string that's located right before the "fullpath" string. This would be an example of what I'm getting using your code:

Code:
<Text located right before the fullpath string> fullpath: path/to/file/sample.xlf
<Text located right before the fullpath string> fullpath: path/to/file/sample2.xlf
<Text located right before the fullpath string> fullpath: path/to/file/sample3.xlf
<Text located right before the fullpath string> fullpath: path/to/file/sample4.xlf
<Text located right before the fullpath string> fullpath: path/to/file/sample5.xlf
<Text located right before the fullpath string> fullpath: path/to/file/sample6.xlf

Many thanks again for your help.

Unless you post a sample input file I can't help.

Hi RudiC,

The attached file has paths to xlf files that are located after a "fullpath:" string. I would like to retrieve only the complete path discarding everything else. Right after the file name there's a "-cfver" string. In other words, I would like to get all file paths between "fullpath:" and "-cfver"

I'm using the following grep command to select a subset of the whole file. Then the awk command would be piped next to my grep command.

find -name 'Sample_File_B.html' -exec grep -B 5 'Success with Warnings' {} \; -print | awk command here

Thanks.

OK, you cheated with your sample file in post#1. It's always heartwarming to create a solution on "sample" files and then the requestor comes back saying "it does not work" but uses a different structure in his real files. You cheated even in your post#8! THERE IS NO SPACE AFTER "fullpath:" IN YOUR REAL FILE and that's why my proposal does not produce what you expect. Remove the space, and also the space in front of -cfver, and it will fly.

Hi Rudic,

Sorry about that. I'm quite new to this world and didn't realize how important those little details are. I must have suspected it. Sorry for making you waste time on a "false" assumption. Will not happen next time.

Thanks so much.
