Lightbulb Guide me in the right direction to develop application for UNIX/Linux

Hi all,

Am good in C & C++, i just joined as a fresher in a French IT company.

In my own interest and love towards Linux and open source. i want to develop as much as applications for linux. i got the basic training on linux commands, and currently am working really hard to gain more knowledge and understanding over the Linux.

What are all the programming and scripting language i need to learn in order to develop good applications.

How to start with... Help me.... Smilie

That's a vague question. That's like asking "what should I cook for breakfast?". Well, it depends on what you like to have, your food intake, your nutrition needs, raw material available, etc..

I consider it as a vague reply(no offence)... At least u can suggest me, what i can cook... like sandwich, macroni.... so that i can take the appropriate dish that suits my nutrition needs... raw material is not a problem though....

You may start learning bash scripting from The Linux Documentation Project.

Hi...

Whatever you decide upon always keep in the back of your mind that "somewhere, someone has already done it".

Don't reinvent the wheel and never assume that you can do better than what is already out there in the internet ether...

I personally would love to see an open source RF Spec An project including all the necessary electronic design required and the building of such an animal, with the computer doing all the control and number crunching...

I love doing projects that kids can understand and do for themselves.

You would be surprised how seriously hard that is...

Now rigged for silent running...

CYA...

I find I learn by doing, and my employer provides the need, not just by assignments, but by out of the box ideas and proof of concept RAD demo. I have little use for SQL, C++, JAVA, shell around the house. For instance, I have a simple high port web site that runs cscope on all our code for me (3K files). No groping for source, impact investigations. Of course, in JAVA I have eclipse. In SQL, I use SQuirreL. Collect and sharpen your tools, so you can find things in your shop that need doing.
