Sort file1 > tmp1
Sort file 2> tmp2
diff tmp1 tmp2

file1 is source mapped to file2.just simple map using etl.
jus trying to diff and see they match.
The no of fields are same in both and in the same order seperated by a comma.
I tried using sort -t, +3 for some case where it worked.

wont it be enuf to give just SORT or am i missing something.

I did individually sort on file1 and file2 and then did HEAD -2 for both tmp files which return different rows of record.whats happening here.

I don't understand what you want. If you sort two files that are identical, they sort out in the same order.

You must have hidden (control) characters in one of the files. try:

head -2 tmp1 | od
head -2 tmp2 | od

to see embedded (control) characters

Thanks Jim,,Actually nothing was wrong with what I was doing earlier i.e Sort and Diff ..The Source File to which I was comparing my target file was dynamic,I mean to say its a production file and its getting updated every few minutes and so the records in Tgt and Src never matched.Anywaz the solution was to compare them as soon as possible before there is any change to the Src file.Thanks Jim..
