frecover on HP 11.11

Hi,

Can someone please explain how I can check whether my files were backed-up to tape.

I issued this command and got an error:-

# frecover -I /tmp/mth -f /dev/rmt/5m
frecover(2105): did not find expected file marker
frecover(5409): unable to read volume header
frecover(5418): not an fbackup volume; unable to read volume header
frecover(2105): did not find expected file marker
frecover(5412): Do you wish to try to salvage this volume? (^[nN]/^[yY]) n
frecover(5411): Do you wish to try a different volume? (^[nN]/^[yY]) n
frecover(5414): abort selected

I'm not sure what will happen if I say y to salvage the volume? Smilie

But in my backup logs, I got the message that the backup was successful ... so I am baffled. Smilie

fbackup(1004): session begins on Tue Aug 9 19:03:53 2005
fbackup(3205): WARNING: unable to read a volume header
fbackup(3024): writing volume 1 to the output file /dev/rmt/5m
fbackup(3009): WARNING: File number 31 (/audit/logs/aud_01)

fbackup(1102): WARNING: unable to stat file /var/spool/sockets/pwgr/client4694
fbackup(3005): WARNING: file number 96495 was NOT backed up

fbackup(3056): total blocks written to output file /dev/rmt/5m: 8686055
fbackup(1030): warnings encountered during backup

Thanks,

P.S. I also tried to make sense of the frecover command in the man pages... but I found it a bit too heavy going!

Try the following cmd if you want to view the contents of TAPE...use root login

tar -tvf /dev/rmt/5m

You cannot use tar with fbackup/frecover and the account had nothing to do with it. I don't understand what happened here, but frecover is not going to be able to store any files from that tape. Are you suree you had the right tape mounted?
