Connecting an external SCSI tape drive to a unix computer

I am interested in booting up my unix computer by connecting an external SCSI drive( intergraph) to it. The unix box is also an intergraph computer. Whenever I boot it, it gives me an error that says Drive not ready, Insert Boot Diskette in A. What am I doing wrong?

Any input would be apreciated
Thanks

You are using an Ultra Sparc machine???

you already type the command "stop + a" and then "probe-scsi -all" to attach the device?

I am working with a pc that has the unix operating system loaded onto it. The keyboard is just a regular pc keyboard and so it does not have a "stop" button on it. I do have some SCSI options in the beginning of the set up, They allow me to enable or disable the host adapter terminator as well as some other options, i have played with it a bit and am not getting anywhere
