nLocal sendmail issues when hostname not set in official domain name

Hi,

I'm having issues with sendmail when I try to send host to host mail. I've had to change the "my official domain name" line to mycompany.com to get the mails through the external spam filter, when a mail was sent with hostname.mycompany.com it was blocked. I had to change the Dj macro to mycompany.com to get round that, but in turn it’s now not allowing local mail to be sent. I get the error :
Code:
  Aug 28 17:27:27 dbserver sendmail[1896584]: q7SGRRR1896584: from=user, size=3292, class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<201208281627.q7SGRRR1896584@mycompany.com>, relay=root@localhost
Aug 28 17:27:27 dbserver sendmail[1896584]: q7SGRRR1896584: SYSERR(root): reportserver.mycompany.com. config error: mail loops back to me (MX problem?)
  Aug 28 17:27:27 dbserver sendmail[1896584]: q7SGRRR1896584: to=repadmin@reportserver.mycompany.com, ctladdr=user (5661/331), delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=esmtp, pri=33292, relay=reportserver.mycompany.com. [10.5.2.90], dsn=5.3.5, stat=Local configuration error

every time I try to send a host to host mail. Is there anyway of presenting the hostname just when I send a host to host mail as that seems to work no problem. I see this error on the other host when I send a mail
Code:
  Aug 28 17:01:54 reportserver mail:info sendmail[24150]: q7SG1s5P024150: dbserver.mycompany.com [10.1.2.10] did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA

It’s driving me mad I can either have unix to unix mail working or unix to mailbox mail working but not both at the same time!
I would appreciate any assistance.
