Search pattern in vi

can any one help how to stop search pattern end of line. It means i am searching one pattern from line 1 and search when it reaches the end of line in a file it should be stop.

Why use vi then? using head and grep commands suffice...

I don't understand what you're asking. All regular expressions in vi have to match all or part of the text on a single line. You can't match the <newline> at the end of a line in vi. If you want to look for text at the end of a line you can use the $ anchor at the end of your search pattern. Give us an example of several lines at the start of your input file and tell us what lines you want to print and how to identify (match) the lines you want printed.

what i meant was i have one file

1 kpk
2 raju
3 praveen
4 kpk
5 god
6 good
7 kpk
i am searching pattern kpk using cmd /kpk i am searching from line 1 till end of the line. after 7 again it will start from 1 like loop. i don't want to start again line 1 it should be stop at end of line (even i press n).Any cmd is there ??

For this, you need to unset wrapscan option in ex mode:
