How to create a Unix Network?

I am having a small office with 10 pc. I want to create a unix network.Help me in creating the network.

This is such a huge question. If you have an office containing 10 machines and are unsure of how to network, you really should get somebody else in to do the work for you.

Search these forums for network-related posts too for actual configuration issues.

All good Unix System Administration texts will cover the "software" and "theory" sides of networking and configuration in detail.

You could just get 10 Linux boxes, a hub/switch, 10 lengths of Cat 5, set one of the boxes up as a DHCP server, the others as DHCP clients, and job done. Though I expect you'll be wanting something more elegant than that, with file and print serving, a DMZ offering web, ftp and mail services, etc.

If you need all of this, and have never done it before, you're going to need to get some external help.

Changed from a broken Switch to a working HUB everyting else in my network is ok after the change but not my RS/6000! It refuses to get connected, get time out on Pings both ways - strange? Could it be some problem with ARP?:confused: (2 Replies)
