Lost and Confused.. .How to connect.. Setting username and Pw

I am a new UNIX user. Meaning I have never used it before. So I have downloaded putty to use. Then on the configuration it says what? It says host name or IP address. Which hostname do I use. Its just me at home only using it. Can I use my website has a connection. If so how. Then where do I make my username and password. Thanks in advanced for helping the confused newbie.
So lost. Smilie

You're mistaking the screen for the computer. PUTTY isn't UNIX, it's just a tool used to talk to (mostly) UNIX computers over a network.

If you wanted a system of your own to use, try downloading, burning, and booting a Knoppix livecd.

Or you can search for a free shell access then you can use putty to connect to a some UNIX server and try some UNIX and see if you like it or not but make sure to read some docs for the beginners before kick off.
