Reading a pipe delimited file

Hi Guys,

i am reading a pipe delimited file using awk command.

Quote:
CtrlFileCnt = `/bin/gawk -F"|" '{ print $1 }' $ControlFile`;
CtrlFileByte = `/bin/gawk -F"|" '{ print $2 }' $ControlFile`;
CtrlFileSalesDate = `/bin/gawk -F"|" '{ print $3 }' $ControlFile`;
CtrlFileStatus = `/bin/gawk -F"|" '{ print $4 }' $ControlFile`;
I have tested the gawk separately. it was fine.

But when i execute the script. i am getting the following error saying command not found.

Quote:
++ /bin/gawk '-F|' '{ print $1 }' /appl/data/VSTAR_Release1/global_daily/landing/GMUS/DAILYSLS_US_LOAD.ctl
+ CtrlFileCnt = 000000150969
DailyUsPrevalidationScript.sh: line 14: CtrlFileCnt: command not found
++ /bin/gawk '-F|' '{ print $2 }' /appl/data/VSTAR_Release1/global_daily/landing/GMUS/DAILYSLS_US_LOAD.ctl
+ CtrlFileByte = 00001285
DailyUsPrevalidationScript.sh: line 15: CtrlFileByte: command not found
++ /bin/gawk '-F|' '{ print $3 }' /appl/data/VSTAR_Release1/global_daily/landing/GMUS/DAILYSLS_US_LOAD.ctl
+ CtrlFileSalesDate = 20110524
DailyUsPrevalidationScript.sh: line 16: CtrlFileSalesDate: command not found
++ /bin/gawk '-F|' '{ print $4 }' /appl/data/VSTAR_Release1/global_daily/landing/GMUS/DAILYSLS_US_LOAD.ctl
+ CtrlFileStatus = New $'Load\r'
DailyUsPrevalidationScript.sh: line 17: CtrlFileStatus: command not found
Can somebody point out as what i am doing wrong.

Cheers!!!

Thanks Jay,,,
one more thing.

Can you tell me what is wrong with this command.

if you try with the above one, nothing will be assigned to the variables SrcFileCnt and dummy

Better try in this way ..

Code:
$ wc -l filename | read line line1
$ echo $line
$
$ echo $line1
$
$ line=$(wc -l < filename)
$ echo $line
3
$

PS: If you have any new query, please post as a new post. So it would be helpful for others too .. Smilie Thanks for the co-operation..
