Changing the screen resolution
I have installed several flavors of Linux and FreeBSD onto my machine. Now when I want to change my screen resolution, it only has one option which is 800x600. Is there a way to change that to a bigger resolution? And if there is, what file do I have to edit and what text editor do I have to use? The only distribution that gets it right is Ubuntu, so hardware-technically speaking this limitation should not exist.

How do you try to change your screen resolution?

Have you tried 'xrandr'?. It will show all posibilities if executed without arguments.

And this is the output on FreeBSD:

In other words, there is no option to go higher than 800x600 on the FreeBSD install, even when it is exactly the same monitor.
I also tried with a different video card, but that did not change the options either.
