Mainframe to Unix. Huge file >5GB
Hi,

The files are being zipped from mainframe to the UNIX server. I have to unzip huge files on AIX server which is too old. The UNZIP as well as gzip utility version is not able to handle it and if we have to install the latest version there is a lot of process which takes lot of process. Is there any other solution to handle this. I heard there is a utility called TAR. Is it something on Mainframe ? Please help.

tar is a utility on UNIX and this will not help you.

try this if you have a JRE installed. ensure the user has fsize=-1 if your not running as root.

What Operating Systems are you running (both of them) ?

You say the files are being zipped from mainframe to unix ? Most versions of zip will allow the splitting of large files into smaller chunks (my linux command line uses "-s").
I would investigate that option as you can easily split the files into manageable chunks.

If your zip can't write big file, try
Code:
unzip -p file.zip > file.out

In case your zip file itself is too big, try funzip if you have it.
