UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

I seem to be having some troubles with my mailserver. Sendmail is working properly as far as I can tell, and so is IMAP and POP3, but whenever I try to log in via IMAP or POP3 I get an incorrect password error even though Iam using the proper password. Ive even tried telnet which yields this:

I know I am using the right password as the password works for ssh and other services, but the mail daemons are not accepting them, Am I missing something?

thats weird. for some reason i kind of remember mine doing that, but either i am imagining things, or a fixed it but dont remember what i did.....so that dosnt really help you too much .

try changing your password to something else, then trying again.

It would appear as though cyrus-imapd, an imap server daemon I am unfamiliar with, doesn't support the old school style mail directories, and thus, until you run the admin tool for cyrus, you cant login, simply because it cant find your mailbox. Since my install of cyrus seems to be broken, as the cyradm tool does not work, I just switched back to dovecot and all is well.
